I’ve ridden everything from a Honda 50CC pit bike, to a modified 1340CC Suzuki Hayabusa with 190-whatever horsepower, and pretty much everything in between. I spent a decade riding all kinds of sport/dirt bikes; I have cracked-open helmets, shredded leathers, and a variety of traffic tickets as proof. My favorite part of that kind of riding was the people. All of us, to some degree or another, had some obscure mental condition that allowed us to believe that piloting a motorcycle that was made expressly for the purpose of riding at a race track was a sane venture. Alberta’s Finest Fall Short in CMFL National Football Championship

It was a gorgeous late Saturday summer’s eve in the mild little college town of Waterloo, Ontario. A slight breeze kept the temperature in the high teens, and the setting sun cast a beautiful glow on the abundant vegetation that acts as the streets aesthetic fodder. You’d never know that two of Canada’s best senior football teams were about to ram heads in a battle for the Canadian Major Football League’s highest honour: the National Championship. Equality Means You Can Still Be an Jerk to Everyone

Equality is defined as “The condition of being equal in number or amount”. Social equality, per wikipedia is: “a social state of affairs in which all people within a specific society or isolated group have the same status in a certain respect.”
I want to beat on those definitions a little bit because I don’t think the general population truly understands the overall sociological concept of equality and what is required of it to be truly and soundly “equal”. Continue reading

Readers, I am proud to have another feature band on the front page. They are called Bigger Fish than Guns from Calgary; they won the X929 Xposure contest, taking home a gold medal in local musical excellence. We put whoever answered our email on the hot-seat with some very tough questions: Continue reading
Transit Featuring Jann Arden – Calgary
So basically there’s a ton of awesome local bands in this video along with the Mayor and a bunch of other rad people. If case you only know Transit from his eight-hour-top-40 challenge song titled “Lights, Camera, Action”, this will give you a better idea of what he’s about, and what the music scene is like in Calgary.
Without further adieu, here’s Transit with Jann Arden (yes, THE Jann Arden), and their brand new track called “Calgary”. Enjoy
Special: Why Your Break Up Doesn’t Really Matter

‘tis this season for relationship break-ups. The warm winds, the smells of the city’s vegetation sprouting to life, and people wearing less and less clothing are sure signs that summer is right around the corner. Another indicator of summer is the increased amount of newly single people around you. I’m not sure if it’s just a Canadian thing, but there’s some kind of internal clock that makes people antsy when the temperatures start climbing.
Splitting with your partner can have a variety of complications. Everything from your mutual friends, to money, and kids can feel the heat of a bad split. Important as these things are, the level of devastation they will incur is arguably in direct proportion to the emotional health of all parties involved. Continue reading
Outrage as Oppression Plagues Canadian Election (Results Included)

There’s a new form of oppression rearing its head across Canada. In homes, offices, and places of leisure, people are being subjected to cruel treatment at the hands of their cold and callous aggressors. Citizens are outraged as no real steps have been made to create policy prohibiting the phenomenon. Continue reading
The Anatomy of Dating in Your 20s

The majority of my friends, who are in their early to mid-20s, are in the throws of learning how much control the opposite sex has over them. I go to university in Calgary, and I have to say (now that I’m almost out of my 20s): it’s painful to watch what some of my pals are going through with their male and female student counterparts. If they’re not phoning their crush way too many times, they’re awkwardly following them down the halls at school trying to think of something cool to say to spark up a conversation – but getting caught for it; if it’s not that, they’re being told that there’s a bad case of strep-throat that will last for months, and the girl can’t be reached by phone. All of these can be pretty painful things to experience, and all of these things can be avoided with just a little bit of awareness.
Gentlemen, let us observe some very key points when it comes to pursuing women Continue reading
If you go to movies, you might be a jerk.

We’re going to visit proper etiquette and awareness when attending a movie theater with your friends.
I was fortunate enough to be allowed access to a female colleague of mine recently. We went to a horror movie on cheap-Tuesday, thinking there would be fewer people around to make the evening difficult. She even insisted on paying, so this night was destined to be excellent. The initial experience was quite amazing and made even more-so by the fact that we were going to be the only two people in the theater. Of course that all changed when a large group of younger gentlemen took up residence in the row directly behind us – no big deal. Continue reading
